Mystery Item! Found a rectangular, shallow tin with ornate design on lid and bottom is inscribed "Doucette". The only comprable info I found was it could have been a make tin from the 1920's. Any thoughts or website suggestions?
I love the photo of the Dandy olive jar and the info regarding the early olive jars. I'm planning on filling the jar with some mock- olives and 6 sounds like a good number to me :) Thanks!
Found what I believe to be an old picnic site, with many food-related bottles from 1920s-40's.
This photo is of what I believe to be an Olive jar. It has the makers mark of Hazel-Atlas Glass Co that dates from 1923-64. Anyone know anything else about this bottle or anything similar or even...
Thanks for responding. I love that site, so thorough.
I'm just making a simple reminder sheet to help with rough estimates.
ex) "Federal Law Prohibits" = ~1932-65
ex) Stippling = ~1941 and newer
I was hoping to find something that helped date it if there is a plastic cap:

Hey there,
I'm still pretty green to bottle ID and I'm trying to make a cheat-sheet to help with bottle dating in the field. One thing I would love to know is when plastic lids begame widely used on bottles?
I would also be interested in hearing any benchmarks or tips you have as well, or...
Thanks for the comments, that really helped. After posting this I found an old photo from exact area that I found the "hunk of metal", and I would agree that it may have been a part of the signal. Aside from the photo of the area, I also found a small hard to read label on the item that said...
This smaller green bottle has en extrenal screw top and an unusual base. My first thought was some sort of condiment, but I'm really not sure about it.

Found a brown bottle with some interesting lines/shapes. After rinsing it off, I discovered it to have an etched label. The photo does a poor job at illustrating it, but it says "Mr Boston's Pinch Bottle"
I've never heard the phrase "pinch bottle", is that another name for a flask...
Hello,
I found this metal item along an abandoned railroad in NYC. I am thinking it is a signal light of some sort. Anyone know of where I should look around for information on it?
Thanks for the info everyone.
Surf- that pic is great! Do you know who has rights to that photo? I'm working on a section of a visitor center that will highlight the history of the area, and it would be great to be able to display a copy next to the bottle to help people connect to that era :)
Hello, I'm a little stuck on this bottle and would appreciate any help regarding it's history. I believe it's a whiskey bottle, but not 100% about that. There is a beautiful wolf's face ebmossed on it's base, with the following sequence of letters/numbers: 57 (I) 60 , PHI-D-2 , 13 (the I is in a...
Hey there, I found the same Old Quaker bottle today, as well as a Gordon's bottle. Do you know any info about those bottles? I'm searching now but not finding much info.
I think I narrowed this down to the time (1920's) & maker (Illinois Glass Co., but I am unsure of the original contents or any related info on this bottle. Any ideas?

Hello,
I found a small clear glass bottle today, and I have done a little investigating to determine it's history but would like to see if anyone out there has any additional info on it. I have tried a bunch of times to upload a pic, but even the lowest resolution on my phone makes the file...
I found a "Musterole Cleveland" bottle today. (I see this post is from a few years back, and that you are now a "super member", but I figured I'd mention mine here as well:)
From the research I have done on this, Musterole was an ointment used similar to the modern day "Vicks Vapor Rub"...
