Hi everyone,
It's been a long time (over three years) since I've gone out bottle digging but I was finally able to dig the old dump this past weekend. I've been in this spot for nearly 7 years, and most of the items have been 1930-50s; however, I've gotten into an older, TOC layer. Only thing...
Hey all! I can honestly say it's been way too long since I've gone digging...about three years for me. Before I head back to college, I wanted to at least revisit my old dump site and see, after all these years, if any new bottles would turn up. So I called up a friend and we ventured out in the...
Hey all, I have had a long passion to dig privies. So far, I've just dug dumps. In the area I live, there is unforeseen potential for privy digging. I have the tools necessary to dig, but I don't have much experience doing this. I think the best way for me to advance in this hobby is to observe...
Hey guys! It's been a while since I've posted. Anyway, today my friend and I were walking through the woods and we found a few bricks. This was the only one that had any identification on it. All it says is CALVERT. It looks pretty old...what do you guys think? Also, how common are these...
Time for the cool air to come in and the brush in the woods to go away. I am so excited this year! In addition to the previous dump I've been digging, I got a new spot. It was the site of an 1820s blacksmith shop and possibly a pathway during the Civil War. I'm going out there tomorrow to scout...
Many of you might know already, but there was a shooting at the Navy Yard in DC this morning. So far, the press has released that 12 people were killed in this horrible event. Let's pray for the victims and their families. It is so saddening that we see these things occur way too often...
I dug a Fletcher's Bottling Works soda bottle and noticed that instead of one seam dividing the bottle in half, there are two seams dividing the bottle into quarters. I've never seen that type of mold used so I was wondering if any of you soda bottle experts would know. The bottle is crown...
So I was going through some of my finds from a few months ago and found this lid in the mix. I think its a canning jar lid, but not 100% sure. It says: PATENTED / NOV 29th / 1870 (outer circle)....PATENTED / FEB 2 / 1873 (inner circle). It doesn't have a maker on it, so I'm trying to figure out...
Hey everyone! We just got back from a relic hunt in Culpeper, VA, and my buddy found these bottle fragments. We got about 2/3 of the bottle and it says 'Choice Old - Bourbon Whiskey'. This is the only pic I have and we can't get any luck with Google searches. Any guesses? D.U.B.
Hey guys. I would've posted this in Milk and Dairy, but it's looking a little dry (haha!..get it? [:D]). Yeah, just a taste of my dry humor. Well, this Souder and Chick bottle is the only variant that I know of that's embossed and I've seen only one other example. The dairy was actually based...
I dug this one up nearly a year ago and I have found no info what-so-ever! It's a Pepsi Cola bottle, but it doesn't say that on the bottle except the base. Here's a pic of the full bottle.
I pulled this huge jar out about 5 months ago and I was surprised that I got it whole. And since then, I have found little info on the bottle. Here's a pic of the jar itself.
Sorry for the poor pics...it has some thin embossing.
I'm finally hitting some older stuff in this dump now. Lots of broken plates and crockery everywhere! Here's what I got today. Not a lot, but they're all whole.
...and it's an amazing Christmas present and tool for bottle digging! But my reason for posting (and I'm sure someone may have posted this before me) is that Rick Weiner (RICKJJ59W) is in the book. He, along with other diggers, have short stories written by Mike Polak with sweet pics of their...
Hey guys. Not a lot for the past two weeks digging, but it's good stuff. Here are two soda bottles: the left is a Rock Creek from D.C. and the right is a Nehi (not sure if you can see the label). I don't know where the Nehi is from, but if I were to guess I would say Frederick, MD. Each painted...
I saw this in an antique store the other day and popped on it right away! It's an Udolpho Wolfe's/Schiedam/Aromatic Schnapps bottle. It has no chips, cracks, or anything physically wrong (it's a tad dirty, though...who cares!). The best part is that it was only $18! I know that these bottles...
Ok. Here's the situation: About a mile away from me there is this house built in 1854. It was a confederate general's headquarters during the Civil War. I want to find the privy(s), but there's one problem...the land it sits on is 7 acres! It's not one of those townhouses, it's in rural Virginia...
I only dug for about an hour or so because of some rain, but came up with some decent finds. The left one is a Cloverdale bottle with a clover embossed on the bottom and another Perrier on the right
