    New England Torpedo Soda

Hi, this was at an auction yesterday. I didn't go, and didn't see it in person, but I know it's a very early New England torpedo soda. Does anyone know the specific glass works that made it, a specific age range, and what it's worth? I know American Glass Gallery sold one not too long ago but...

    Gallon scroll flask

Hey, did anyone see the gallon scroll flask that ended yesterday on ebay? I was surprised by the lack of interest in it and thought it would have sold for more. How many of these exist? Does anyone have a record of others selling...

    Bronze thingamabob needs identified

Recently I bought this bronze or brass thingamabob at an antique shop. It has a really heavy patina on it and looks very old. It's 5 inches long and 3 inches high. There's a little chain loop attached to the pointed end. The top is hinged and opens on one side. Does anyone know what it is...

Found the hobnail bottle I needed

Here's a picture of the Clevenger hobnail bottle mold I got last summer:

    Is this Southern stoneware?

I found a pitcher and I think it might be Southern stoneware. It's heavy and crude, with four bands of coggle decoration all around it. It's 6 1/2 inches tall. Is anyone here good with this kind of thing?

Anyone else go to the Clevenger auction?

I saw the post for the Clevenger Brothers auction on here and knew I'd always regret it if I didn't go. It took a lot of convincing, but I talked my fiance into going, and we drove 7 hours to New Jersey. There were so many molds and tools I couldn't keep track of them. Something I realized...

    New book! Portage County Glass

I've finished writing my book about the glass industry of Portage County, Ohio and it's now available for sale. I put around 2 1/2 years of work into it. It's 206 pages, including 48 color pages. There are 45 black and white illustrations and 185 color illustrations. It has 19 chapters. They...

    Always check the classifieds.

About 5 weeks ago, I saw an online classified ad saying miscellaneous bottles for sale. I responded and asked for a picture, and the person said she'd send one the next day. I never got the picture and basically forgot about it. Then, a month later, she sent three pictures. Here's one of them.

I should have taken a before photo...

I went to a yard sale last weekend and bought a stoneware pitcher for $10. It was covered in paint-- really ugly paint. When I saw it, it was black with some thinly painted metallic pink and orange areas. I wasn't even sure it was an antique at first. But I bought it on the chance it was marked...

Odd stoneware-- what was it used for?

I bought this piece of stoneware earlier this week. I just had to have it. The only thing, though, is I don't know exactly what it is. It looks like it's a gallon size, and has a pitcher-type handle on one side and a crock-like handle on the other side. It also looks like it used to have a...

    Whimsey Jug

This is a jug on display at my county historical society. It's actually a one gallon. I just thought it was funny, someone got a little too stamp-happy. Definitely a one-of-a-kind.

Looking for D. O'Kane, even damaged.

Hi, I'm looking for an example of a "D. O'Kane" soda or porter bottle. The back should say "Dyottville Glass Works Philada." and the last "A" in "Philada" should be the same size as all the other letters. I'm just looking for an example, so cracks or chips are ok. Thanks.

    Not another Duffy's

I was at a flea market yesterday and saw a bottle that looked like a common Duffy's Malt Whiskey but I picked it up and looked at it anyway. Turns out it was a copycat brand, "Belfast Malt Whiskey For Medicinal Use." Just something a little different that I thought you'd like to see. In my...

    Mansfield

Who all is going to the Mansfield, Ohio show May 10th? It's the 30th anniversary show. In honor of that, they're having a special raffle: 300 tickets sold at $5 each. First prize is $500 or an Indian Queen bitters. Several $30 prizes also.

    Embossed plant

Just wondering if anyone has seen this bottle before. It's a LONDON mustard bottle shape, but instead of a name it has an embossed plant.

    Drink Vril?

Hi, I got this bottle last weekend. It's 11 inches tall, with a tooled lip and aluminum cap. The applied color label says "Drink Vril, The Strength of the Grape, 5 cents. The edges of the label are gold. Is it what I think it is, a syrup bottle that goes on the shelf behind a drug store soda...

    Marble glass

I went to a tag sale today and found a small collection of glass leftovers dug from a marble factory site. They were in a bucket along with some rocks and shells. I don't know much about them at the moment. I thought they were neat, so I figured everyone here would want to see them too.

    Picked up a stoneware crock

Hi, I just bought this at an auction but wanted to get some opinions on it. I think it's either a 2 or 3 gallon. The form looks unusual to me. Any thoughts on the date and region where it was made? It's salt glaze underneath. Also, should I leave the paint on or take it off? I do think it's...

    Glowing Bottles

I bought a blacklight yesterday and was curious to see if it would make any of my bottles glow in the dark. As it turns out, a lot of them do glow yellow-green. Does anyone know what is in the glass that makes them glow? Uranium makes glass glow, but it wouldn't be that, would it? Most of the...
