Washington Bottle & Collectors Assoc. Sept 8.

Washington Bottle & Collectors Assoc. meeting is coming up this Friday, Sep 8. It's at the Tukwila Community Center at 7pm. First part of the meeting is for show and tell, buy or sell. Not sure what the rest of the meeting is about, haven't been to one yet, this'll be my first...

    Two New Milks

Well, unless it's enough to get me out of debt and/or retire on, I'm not interested in selling them anyway. I only have a very small collection and those are the best ones. Question on displaying milks - what is that white stuff you put in them to simulate milk? Where do you get it?

    Two New Milks

How rare are dairy names on milk bottles? I have two that have dairy names from Washington State: http://home.comcast.net/~brinybay2/Bremerton_Creamery.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~brinybay2/Springdale_Dairy.jpg

    A Little Humor for eBay'ers

hehe, ain't that the truth! I buy from eBay, but I won't sell anything after my last horrible experience where they nickled and dimed me to death for one small item.

    Cleaner?

Straight vinegar will do the job, especially if you're harvesting from fresh water, and is much safer than muriatic acid, although it takes longer. I've used it effectively on salt-water encrusted bottles: Before: http://home.comcast.net/~brinybay2/Bremerton_Creameryb4.jpg After vinegar...

    Washington State

Yeah, me! I sent you an e-mail, hope to hear back if you haven't totally given up. Look on the bright side - if there aren't many diggers up here, that's more treasure for us!

    the other stuff

He's correct, I recognize those as being part of a US military mess kit. Not sure if they still have those, I've been out for 30 years.

    Muriatic Watch Out

I use Coca-Cola in my rum drinks. I don't have any need to dissolve teeth overnight, I dump the bodies in the ocean. I would think it would clog up a radiator with all that sticky crap and also leave a sticky residue on bottles. I take my vehicle to pros to work on, I won't touch it...

    Muriatic Watch Out

Vinegar fits well with my lazy streak (don't have to watch them so close or fuss with the other stuff) and she-who-must-be-obeyed is also content with it.

    Label Preservation

I was wondering about that. Could not for the life of me picture a paper label surviving X amount of years u/w, even in fresh water. Not even pyro labels hold up u/w. Only ones I found that survive u/w are the embossed labels like this one:

    Muriatic Watch Out

One of the other bottles in my collection. It had several really tough barnacles on it that I initially tried getting of with a diluted bleach soak and elbow grease but several still wouldn't budge (but the bleach made them nice and white). This is after a soak in straight vinegar for several...

    Muriatic Watch Out

RE: Acid, vinegar, after pic Went down to the nearby Cash & Carry store (kinda like a mini Costco, but no membership needed) and got a case of vinegar. Works fine if you don't have the time to watch them closely and/or fuss with the rubber gloves, baking soda rinse, goggles, and all that. I...

    Muriatic Watch Out

I'm getting some mixed messages on the use of Muriatic acid to get sea growth off bottles. I purchased a bottle of it but woman of the house would not allow it's use anywhere on the premises. I was just going to go ahead and set up an acid bath anyway since she never sets foot in the shed...
