A friend asked me to look into these and I figured I'd start here to see if anyone had suggestions or a recommended website?
Not looking for drama that comes along with most websites or Facebook. Figured since you guys are a laid back knowledgeable bunch it wouldn't hurt to ask here first...
Picked up a couple more today, people doing spring cleaning around here. The amber bottle in the middle is a slick except for the 'M' on the bottom. I'm assuming Marion Flint Glass Co. would make this bottle 1912 at the latest or am I way off? https://sha.org/bottle/pdffiles/MLogoTable.pdf
Haven't cleaned but minimal rust/oxidation and not sun faded. Spotted the one from down below and there was the end of another one poking out beside it.
I enjoy reading the experiences you all have while digging. And not being a digger myself, wondered if there are things that show up more often than not in bottle dumps: marbles, coins, ceramic dolls, etc.
It makes sense they haven't decomposed yet (compared to other refuse of the time). Or...
Read this in the news today and thought it was kinda neat, might check it out sometime. https://www.brantfordexpositor.ca/news/local-news/crystal-cottage-on-the-move
Found this today, lots of other broken glass in the area but this is the only one that *might* be identifiable, since it's a neck. I figured mid-century bleach or something like that, but the closest thing I could find online at sha.org referred a similar design as a "double ring"? Any input...
Well Folks, been on the list to get the shelves installed and some the bottles unpacked.
A member here was kind enough to send me the motivational Lucky Lager can to get things in motion...give it some friends so to speak.
Here you go, hope the pics turn out OK
I was getting ready to recycle this and found some info on https://sha.org/bottle/pdffiles/Heinzbottlecodes.pdf that leads me to believe it's older than I thought. From what I gather its a #251, no earlier than 1918, and no later than 1929. Is there a way to narrow it down further from the...
From what I can make out it's marked "Swinton" and "S.Y.C.B. Co"
My Google searches not panning out. I thought the groove across the top diameter was for a wire closure, but the lack of info has me second-guessing. Measures approx 2 -1/4" diameter and a bit over 3/4" deep. Any ideas?
How do some of these labels hold up after all the years. Pretty sure it isn't ACL but legible. Was unpacking a few bottles today for my display shelf I'm working on, and this is one of 3 that still hand some type of label. The other two are obviously paper but this looked a bit different.
Homeowner said any excavation for the new place keeps uncovering more glass. These were a couple pieces from job clean up, nobody wants rusty nails/metal or glass to be stepped on including me.
An old privy/dump maybe?
These turned up the other day, odd that the green bottles were all found together but different markings on each base. A few others not pictured. Time to do some research and more poking around.
Any idea what this is? Figured someone would have dug something similar, or else grew up on a farm. Maybe the blade of a scythe or some type of tool/implement? I don't know. It's got a curve, what looks like serrations, and pretty old. Thanks in advance for any guesses.
