    In my experience, dig to the bottom of the newer layer, get a good 4', and 6' probe and search out the entire area with the 4', then the 6' probes.     The ceramic ones are called geometric china marbles. They range from the early 1850's and throughout. We don't see the shinny geometrics until the 1870's.
