So decided to actually learn to blow glass. Finished beginner's class. Creations are far from perfect but getting better. Maybe in a few years I'll be able to make a tumbler with straight sides. I have new respect for hand-blown items. These are the creations I've made on my own so far.
So I found this bottle on a new site a few weeks ago. It is listed on eBay for $700 down to $200. Is it really worth that much? There looks to be over 1000 bottles on the site so I'm excited to get out there.
So I decided to try my hand at glass blowing. It is definitely an art. Luckily the good folks at Burnt Glass in Jax, FL helped me out (OK they pretty much did everything) . This is the vase!
My sister gave these to me. She found them in a shed on a farm in eastern OR she just sold. I'm interested in selling but can't find some on-line. I haven't been able to find anything on the cone top Southern Brewing Co. Special Brew can.
I purchased this bottle in a little store in Walhalla, SC. I tried to research but the only one I found was on worthpoint and I couldn't see the date or value. Any info?
A good friend delineates wetlands and is always finding locations with lots of glass. This one is in JAX. Anyone interested in searching the site with me?
I kept finding so much broken glass that I decided to put it through my rock tumbler to use for my garden path. I'm going to add rope lights under the glass. The pics are of about 10 gallons. I'm going to need a lot more! 80% is found glass and the other 20% is flea market/thrift shop glass...
I found these raw pieces of jet mixed in with bottles from the 30's and 40's. It isn't coal but very similar. The shinier pieces are wet. It smells like coal when heated.
I found this sign a few years ago on a job site in Gainesville, FL. I didn't collect bottles at the time and I imagine there would have been a lot there - it's now 2 five story apartment buildings.
I had an hour before dark to spend at an old site. Found mostly brown bottles. Any info on the back bottles with the things coming off the top? Thanks!
These are my favorite finds over the weekend at sites I've previously explored. I think there's going to be a lot more to come.
The brown bottle (it looks like a vanilla bottle) has a bulge on the front the is asymmetric. If this a mistake in manufacturing or was it purposely made that way?
I went to pick up the broken glass in my friend's driveway to make beach glass and found these little bottles intact. There was a lot of old purple broken glass. Can anyone tell me the real reason some glass turns purple with age? I've heard a lot of different reasons. Thanks!
I found this site this morning. Lots of bottle just laying on the surface. Can't wait to date them. Some aren't too old but I haven't even started looking at the bottle of the hill.
I stumbled on this site by pure accident - I hadn't even thought about looking for old bottles in N Florida. the earliest bottle I dated is circa 1915 but most are from the 1920's and 1930's. I'm sure there's more and I'll be out there whenever I can go. (The red one wasn't found on the site...
I was searching for bottles at a new site and found these insulators in an old shed that had fallen down. There are 31 - most of them are in perfect condition. The ones that look clear are actually a pale pink. I think there are more under the leaves. Can't wait to go back. I was so excited...
