I just magnified that photo and it looks like a clean break.!!! So all I posted previous is a moot point. But this would be a good candidate for the grinding process if that company wanted to save the cost of making another bottle.
What I think what you have is a ground top. The bottle was placed in a grinding machine and the sharp edges were ground off. So a cork could still be put in the bottle without the total loss of use. I have many ground top bottles some even have threads in the neck for a screw on cap. A...
Back to the original question. What you have is a three piece mold bottle and it is very possible that the two top halves were from a different batch of glass and the result is dark base and a lighter two piece top. IMHO
Wanted to share a Dog bottle that I just picked up on eBay. The reason I bought this particular bottle is because of the crudeness. The neck is really stretched, and it has drippy glass running down the front almost into the dog. It has become my favorite of the dog bottles....!!!!
First, why do you want to deepen the color? In a natural state the glass will usually turn a light Amethyst and not that dark color you see online for sale.
If you really want to go to the dark color try lining a container with aluminum foil, then place the bulbs and bottles in the container...
I do not collect these bottles, but I would like to know how to date a screw top Coke bottle. They are clear and one has a cap within the screw cap. Any ideas on dating these would be helpful. Thanks, OMD
Don't know if you are familiar with Dellville Dam Rd. That is where I live. The hurricane that hit in 1972 took out the dam that was on Shermans Creek, so the name stayed but the Dam didn't!!!!
Looks to me like you have found a surface dump. If you were using your metal detector to find that cone bottle. Start using a probe to see if there are any goodies below the surface. Go gently as you will feel the glass without breaking threw.
That is a very good question. There was one on eBay selling for $650. It sat and sat and the price dropped to $350. Then it went away. I guess the Rooster/Gamecock got it on a downhill run. It was not the quality that I personally would pay even the $350. for as it had some problems. IMHO
$350...
I'd go by the old saying, "one mans trash is another mans treasure" The gallon jugs are in demand around my area, so are they collectable? They have varied uses. If you were in the hills of Tenn. or Kentucky, I say hell yea they are valuable. Just keep what appeals to you and rid yourself of the...
You got a good deal for $10.00. Most of the ones I see are running $30 to $40 in the stores. I do not know if you have a rare variation, but I have never seen one with that wording on it.
Now I have to look for this variant, Thank you... I have 7 variations of this bottle and they do not include this one. Did you dig or purchase this bottle?
Best thing to do is go online and search for "PRATTWARE" and you may find help there with info and collecting the lids with their appropriate bases. Good luck
