I actually like 1930s dumps better than 1910s-20s dumps - but then again - its probaly because Ive had a lot of luck selling rusty beer cans on Ebay (honestly - for me at least - its easier for me to dig a 50 dollar can than a 50 dollar bottle)
I emailed you - but heres the link - some pretty rusty cans can be worth more most of the other stuff in an average 30s-50s dump..... check it out

I have one of those hutches too (!)..cant remember if its dated......think I bought it at the flea market in Hadley a long time ago.....wonder which box its in..if I didnt trade it for something else years ago....I also had one that was from State Line mass.....forget the name..thought that was...
RE: Hey Sam on the Hutch bottles
Hutches were generally for soda - I think that sort of stopper could withstand a higher pressure than a blob-top type closure - but not sure - soda has a higher pressure than beer (it took nearly 20 years longer to sucessfully can soda than to can beer) - blobs...
try sticking that in some oxalic acid..that should take the rust off without messing up the paint (I use it on old tins.....beer cans I dig up)....you can get it at the hardware store as "wood bleach" or "deck wash".......among other places.....just make sure you do it outside or in the...
sure those two little ones arent inks..check the bottom....I found a similar bottle while walking the river....looks 40s to me..Ill have to find it..but..it was an ink
Bakers Extract, Listerine, those goofy Pepto-Mangoode (or however you spell it) 8 sided bottles - Davis Pain Killer - pretty good list we got going hehe
oh...I can think of two or three spots like that....those spots are so depressing...you spend hours chucking rocks and you see all these great fragments...and maybe you end up with a bottle or two...it makes sense though.....the volume of a dump in 1860 or 1870 for the average small house...
yep..thats definintely in the top 20 usual suspects.....somewhere in between Sawyers Crystal Bluing and Hires extract bottles.....heh..well...maybe ranked a little better than that....easier to sell at the flea market than a Warranted Flask for sure

one of the best bottles I ever found was in that same fashion......my friend was renting a room in an old house - I was poking around in the basement..and there was a smaller crawlspace (but not quite that small) under the kitchen...I saw a couple pieces of glass and lots of sand..but..turns out...
do you sift the earlier privies that you dig - if I was going through all the trouble to haul it out of the hole to begin with - Id want to get everything - have you had any luck doing that - there arent too many privies up here in Mass - well - I havent dug too many - I have sifted some of the...
do you have a good before-and-after can soaking picture - I used to have a few saved on my computer but cant seem to find them - I think some of the readers might find it interesting
RE: Hey Pete???
IM a little lost......what are you talking about - my dump will be gated in the spring?? - I think we have a miscommunication - since you dont know where my dump is - its been dug since the 70s or 80s (though only moderately) - if they didnt cover it up or post it by now - I...
RE: Hey Pete???
which land are you talking about - the training fields in Westfield.....tons of dumps across the street (?)...the only thing across the street is that Home Depot distribution center.....there is a small cellar hole a little further up the road..full of 30s-50s junk......as well...
RE: Hey Pete???
oh.I know there are some older things in there .....Ive been digging since I was 8 myself..so....Ill find it..I already outsmarted everybody else who dug there but never bothered to dig under the sand.......Im going to go back and probe the whole hillside.......you really think...
RE: Hey Pete???
its all going to be the same stuff..only newer and/or older......the older stuff might have some different types of things....people have dug right on top..where you are more in view (though you are still in the woods...so..not too bad..this time of year though..very thin...
RE: Hey Pete???
yah....I hate those "thin" dumps.....they might be 12 feet deep...but....the layers can really suck....Im digging a dump I used to think was totally dug..or mostly at least...looked like 4 feet of surface stuff on a hill...pretty basic.....lots of big holes...the hill continues...
RE: Hey Pete???
the only time I was able to sell a bunch (aside from the piddling 50 cents they get at the flea market) was a guy who was either going to stick some labels on them or turn them purple....I guess then he could get....2 dollars for them....heh...Im sure someday there will be more...
running out of space....hmmm.......you should trade all the blank meds to one of those guys who turns 'em purple.....or something like that....I just started making piles of all the whole bottles (and any particularly interesting chunks...etc) and leaving them more-or-less upside down in a...
