This is the old generator that sits on top of the hill.

Well, after a long weekend of fun I can actually post some of the pictures of our dig. Didn't find anything special, except what I thought might be a police badge. Got it home and cleaned it off and it turned out to be a junior police badge. Not a bad find, but still not a sweet bottle. Spent...

Wow. That 70% chance of rain just vanished since yesterday. Now's it's at 10% so I can have a great dig today! My camera is fully changed and ready to go! I was reading about the citric acid and we actually dug up this metal plaque thing that we can read because of the rust. I wonder if that...

Rusty cans, are you kidding!?! There are so many rusty things and broken glass pieces at this site. I actually found a stone that /was/ in the stone wall that is flat and fairly light-weight that I can move around to sit on. Where can you get citric acid so that I can clean these cans up, too? I...

Hi Marjorie. I think you are talking about a light bulb. One of the few thiings I found that wasn't a bottle. I didn't notice it in the picture until I posted it. All that's left of the 'mansion' are some stone walls(at least the ones I didn't sorta throw down the hill), a generator or something...

Oh cool! That would be very kind of you. I'm still a little nervous to try and remove the cap. It's cracked pretty bad and I'm afraid I'll break it and decrease the value. Oh I can't wait to get back out there and find some more! I think I enjoy finding out about the bottles more than the...

Had to find something to measure it with and finally found a tape measure, thank goodness. Smile bottle is just a little over 6 inches.

Doug, that's a very funny story. Would have been nice to find all that change AND a cannonball or something. Went through my last box of bottles and found 2 that were unique. The tall, clear bottle says 100M and Italy along with some characters I can't make out and the short blue one has a very...

Darn. I couldn't go today. Sis-in-law isn't feeling well so there goes my sitter. Found 33 cents more in the driveway. One day the metal detector will pay for itself. So it looks like we might get a chance to go out and dig on sunday if the weather permits. My little Smile soda bottle might...

    Amherst county Virginia

I know for sure that a building stood there because of all the bricks in the soil and stone walls. It's right beside the James River and the state has put up a tiny park there. I was visiting the park and an elderly lady saw my mother-in-law using her metal detector and told her that this hill...

You know, it makes me feel so much better knowing that I'm not weird for finding joy in digging in trash looking for some kind of treasure. Everyone that knows me can't grasp the fact that I even like finding these bottles. I guess being a girly-girl who doesn't like bugs/dirt/outdoors for a...

If I can get my sister-in-law to baby sit for me, I'll be buried in dirt all day tomorrow. I might take my camera with me but I'm kinda afraid it might get lost. I wish I would have taken pics of the stone walls before I tore them apart. I nearly uprooted a tree trying to get a large bottle that...

Thanks for the info, Joel. Since the mansion was built of stone and brick, a lot of the bottles have scratches on them. I'm hoping to go back and dig up a few hundred more this weekend, tomorrow if I'm lucky. Found 36 cents in my driveway with the metal detector. Seems to be the only place where...

This is one of my favorites. The little glass stopper doesn't go with the tiny bottle. I wish I could find what it goes to. Hasn't fit anything yet. But the tiny bottle is maybe 1 inch tall and about 1 1/2 inches on each side. Perfume, perhaps?

One day I'll find something really nice. Just wanted to put these pics up. Random bottles. Maybe someone will recognize something valuable.

Last one for now. Probably another liquor bottle. Says "Full Pint" and then gives the Federal Law warning on one side. The other side has a shield with a large letters 'C' and 'D' overlapping and 'Co.' in the middle of the C and D. On the bottom it has 'D-8', '68', 'F' in a hexagon, and a '5'.

This one is probably nothing special, but it was shaped differently. Seam goes all the way to the top of the bottle. It's in a kind of wide octagon shape. on the bottom is the number '6' a 'P' in a circle and then the numbers '377'.

This bottle has two cute little handles on the sides. Seam goes all the way to the top. The bottom says Penick & Ford LTD. Inc and below that it has the number '2' a diamond and circle symbol, and then number '52' and a little ways past that the number '5'.
