RE: dark purple bottle - still!
Hi, I've just been getting into this within the last year or so, Matt.
Gorgeous bottle, that "Wade, In" that you described in your initial post looks more like a "Wade, Ln" to me, as in London?
Anyway, since all the initial postings, here's a link to a...
Hey, Bottle Man!
Since you collect early New England, thought you'd enjoy this one. Not particularly old relative to your collection, but when you look at it in the context of milk bottles, and of yogurt, it's quite a representation of modern American culture, (no pun intended!) The...
Thank you very much, Warren - not only does that tell me about the jar, but it puts a very specific date on my dump pile! Considering this area, guess I shouldn't be that surprised about it being used so recently. Other neighboring piles have stuff made out of that semi-rigid "p" stuff...
Thank you for the welcome, Farmgal! E-bay's almost like an encyclopedia and a museum all rolled into one, isn't it! You all seem like very nice, friendly people. I like yaz![:)]
Never saw one of these until I dug up a small broken one, which I tossed. Then I found another broken one in an antique shop with an eight dollar price tag. Next time out in the woods (my backyard!) I found a larger one intact! The picture shows a light and a dark blue jar, searches on e-bay...
I've got one of the blue jars - thanks for the original/repro info. I bought mine around '89 or so and at the time I had to choose between a blue one and a pink one, so now we know they came in a few colors more than just clear repros.
I put a crack in mine washing it - the glass is so thin...
Hey guys, I'm glad that you all stick up for one another re: unnecessary comments. Regardless of age, we all are continuing to learn, we are different and each of us has different strengths.
I used to work for a family who was from Newfoundland, and as Tristan's spelling goes, I was able...
Dumb question from a novice...is that green interspersed with the clear actually the glass, or is that green algae inside the bottle, LC? Regardless, it's quite the piece.
Hi, Alan, thanx for the reply. I'm next door here in Northwood, NH. That's got to be neat, to find a mollusk living inside a bottle. I'd love to see pictures of that. Talk about a captive audience...
Yep! Kind of like the bottle still has more use to something or somebody than when its last owner tossed it! Here are pictures if I can figure out how to upload them...and thanks for the reply! BTW, I was poking around one of the dumps in the back woods and found a garter snake in one of the...
I've read posts about the snakes and the bees and other things near where we dig. Has anyone else found things living IN the bottles and jars that we find?
I have the good fortune to have found 2 or 3 natural terrariums while digging, and obviously I didn't have far to dig. (My dump is...
I just did a google on "westrobac" and found that it was a bacteria put into the soil by farmers to improve their fruit production. Advertisement-related hits date it to around 1915. Thanks for inspiring me to learn something else!

I found a 1/2 gallon Ball jug in an old trash pit behind the house. It's styled just like your typical, boring vinegar jug that was produced until they started using plastic, in clear glass with a screw top and a finger handle.
I've never seen a 1/2 gallon jug before, and I didn't know...
Is there any interest from collectors in more recent commercial type glassware? I.E. glass gallon jugs with screw tops, gallon pickle jars, not really old stuff. I know that most of the products these were used for now come in plastic bottles.
I'm wondering if I'm just having a good time...
I had some good luck with a paste made from baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. That will also work to take the stains out of marble, if you put it on and leave it moist for a day or so (cover with plastic wrap). Be sure to test it in an inconspicuous place first.
Morning!
I can still get bottles like that for about $15 bucks filled with Italian white table wine in local grocery stores. As I recall, the wine wasn't all that great but I kept the bottle for it's 'coolness!' I finally figured out what to do with it this spring. For under $5 bucks at...
