I dug these 2 lids today. Any ideas on what they go to or if they are worth a dollar or 2? Swizzle

Hey swiz, the first one's a very good lid, worth way more than a couple bucks! Looking up the Patent date in Redbook 9 it looks like it went to numbers 2964 - 2966 which are WHITEMORE'S PATENT ROCHESTER N.Y. They book at $300 - $500 bucks. The little wire that held the lid on it says is very scarce and I'm quessing that's a big part of the closure value, but the whole closure value is 50% of the jar value so I'd say that glass lid is worth some buckaroos! especially to someone who has the jar but no lid. Says the lid came in clear and aqua. Still looking for the second one.

The book shows the base of one of the jars can be plain or have a compass and a carpenters square kinda like a mason's symbol.

The second lid might be from a WB monogram TRADE MARK LEADER jar another expensive jar $750 & up Redbook #1467. I dug shards of that one last year.

Awesome. The first one might be clear but it does have a tint of purplish/pinkish color to it. Does anyone here have a jar that needs these lids? I'm gonna go back over to this dump today and see what else I might find. These 2 were found within a few inches of each other. What do you think a fair asking price would be? I want to give someone a good deal on them but I do a lot of digging for a little bit of money so I don't want to give them away either. That is some cool info. Thanx for researching these for me. Hello Swizzle the second lid goes to a B.B. Wilcox it does'nt have the tell tale rays but I think this may have been a replacement lid for broken ones.I dug one last year and sold it for $10.00 of course the guy paid me and ran away never looking back, laughing as he went. Clinton

I sent an e-mail with some pics to a fruit jar forum and I got this e-mail as a reply. Swizzle

Hi Jason- Thanks for your message. Unfortunately both lids are common, because thousands of them have been dug. The Whitmores (clear) lid is the least common of the two, but still would be valued at only about 10 dollars, if flawless. An original brass wire clamp for this jar in good shape would be valued at $50.00-$75.00. The aqua BB wilcox lid would be valued at less than $1.00 as it is extremely common. The original 3-piece metal closure for this jar would be valued at $30.00-$40.00 in good shape. Sorry for the bad news about your lids. But feel free to contact me about other closures or jars. Best regards, Greg

Sorry Jason for getting your hopes up, seems like they would be worth more than that. The B.B. Wilcox lids in the redbook don't look like yours, but could be a replacement like Clinton said. If that was Greg Spurgeon (sp?) though, he should know what he's talking about. The redbook said closure value is 50%, so how could 50% 0f $300 - $500 dollars be only $60 to $85?
