First of all, I need to set the geographical area where the South Australian storekeeper sold the above preparation. For other Australians, the South East Region of South Australia will be recognised. For other readers, please see the following website:

The towns where the general storekeeper, a Mr. Orizaba Jarman operated were Naracoorte, Stewart's Range and Kingston. The time was possibly around 1890 to 1907, as the Stewart's Range shop closed in that year.

Mr. Orizaba Jarman sold, among other quack cures, Lightning Hair Restorer, which was made for him by Mrs. I. Comstock, of Northport, Michigan, and bottled here, selling for 2/6 (Two shillings and sixpence).

Some years ago, I was lucky enough to find a lot of paper material that had been thrown out, and most of it concerned the Jarman family of Naracoorte in the South East. Amongst the paper ware was a cardboard box for Lightning Hair Restorer, and three original labels, as well as a page of testimonials.

Email me if you would like a scanned copy of the testimonial page.
