I dont know what it was for maybe Spirits of some kind. It looks like a New England piece.

Strangely I think I know what that is. Its a jar for cigars. Instead of a cigar box its a cigar jar.

The jug has what appears to be BOSTOWN WARE with a little jug shaped in the same way between the two words in a round stamp.
