I have come across several sizes of these. They look like lids but no bottles to go with them. I have 3 sizes 1 1/4", 1 5/8" and 2" across. The smallest is clear and the other 2 sizes are green. Embossed on top is "Pat March 16 1909" Any info would be nice. Thanks Tom

You say you have come across many of these . all in one dump ? or in different dumps anyways this could have something to do with a neon sign or glass bubbles on a porcelain style sign ? l

Not sure what this one is but I it doesn't look anything like any insulator I have seen.I couldn't see how it could be used as one.My guess would be a lense to a railroad lantern or some other kind of lense.Someone here will be along soon with a definitive answer I am sure.Doug

Yes all in one dump and Appliedlips..........you could be on to something because there were some globes from railroad lanterns there also. The man that used to own the property retired from the railroad. He died a few years back.

It doesnt look like the lenses in the railroad lanterns I have seen but it appears to be a lens of some sort. Looks like it has 3 flat spots for securing with set screws.
Looks like the lip may be ground also? Likely something from the rail system if you found other rail items in the dump.

Snow finally melted enough to get to the shed. The patent number on the insulator I was looking for wasn’t 1909 and was on the base, not the top. I still believe it is the broken top of an insulator and have seen similar before. They seem to shear off where the wire was wrapped around the top and the “screw holes†are actually where the inside thread begin. The attached picture may help. As normal though, I could be wrong.
