How many of you homeowners recieved this "official" looking letter stating that you had to have your property tax re-assessed due to the bubble bursting in the housing market? I did and I was just about to send off my check for nearly 200 dollars to pay for this reassessment. The letter stated that I would save more than 800 dollars a year on my tax bill. Well, my coworker got the same letter with the same figures on it and we started to smell something and it wasn't right. Turns out it is a new scam and me and my coworker both almost fell for it. Good thing we talked about it and decided to investigate. This particular one applies to California homeowners but I'm sure it will be tried elsewhere too so keep it in mind.
