Hi All Bottle Girl Here!
I got a bottle that I love but haven't the slightest idea about! It's amber-yellow (possibly from medicine/age?). Here's the low-down on it:

Amber-yellow color / 4 & 3/4 inches tall / square shape / cork top / nothing on the sides or bottom / seam is crooked, runs halfway up the neck which could dates it 1870-1900, probably 1870-1880. The only embossing: GREEVER-LOTSPEICH MFC CO. / KNOXVILLE, TENN. / U.S.A. in unevenly spaced and typed letters, all caps.
Here's a picture - more pictures soon to come.

Any help would be great! Bottle Girl

Hello Bottle Girl;

Its a medicine or druggist for sure and I think you are about right on the
time frame for the making of this bottle. I don't know Tenn. bottles so maybe
someone on this forum can give you more info on the company that made it.

Joe.

This could be a patent medicine, but the shape is what is commonly called in the USA an "extract bottle." These extract bottles contained food flavoring such as vanilla, lemon, etc. They are a very common bottle because a hundred years ago food preparation was done mostly in home-kitchens. You can still find such extracts in the supermarket.

Many of these extract bottles were embossed, some were not. Here is a pic of one from Florida that is not embossed.

Yes, they are very similar to the "Baker's Flavoring Extract" and "Foss's Fruit Flavors" bottles that I find here in New Hampshire.
I guess the key would be the Manufacturing company from the original post.
Either way, it could be an extract bottle or a medicine bottle.
My guess would be as Harry said; an extract bottle.

I found a very nice pic of one of these extract bottles with label and box. Go to the link below, click on the CATALOG button, then navigate to Lot 116. (I can't get you any closer than that.)

Here is what the auction description says:

SWAN BRAND Flavoring Extract. Label only with original box. Bottle is 6 1/2". The extract banana and the piece itself along with the box is like new. There is about half of the original extract. A neat piece that was made by Tillmann & Bendel in San Francisco.
