Hello folks... Just dug this Russian Heart breaker over the weekend. My digging partner was actually the one to come across it, but we both took it bad, especially because I had first pic on this pit! lol

Never heard or seen of this one. The first line is embossed "RUSSIAN" the second line is "OIL OF BA" no clue what the rest of it said. About the size of a Kimballs Jaundice Bitters, and yes open pontil...

That is an incredibly nice find. I haven't found anything on it yet, but someone will know. Have you finished the pit? what else did you get?

Matt,

I don't know what it is yet, but will be researching this one...

If mint... that would have bought you a brand new truck for all your digging tools!

GET BACK TO THAT SITE AND FIND A WHOLE ONE!!

we didnt finish the pit, it ended up being 6 pits all dug next to each other, from the 1850's - 1930. We of course found the oldest part last. The area covered 8 feet wide by 12 feet back and 5 - 8 feet deep depending on which pit we were in. They all were wood liners, and what the did was dig a new one along the wood liner of the existing pit, with the 1870's dipped and filled in with toc trash. Then the newer pits were dipped and filled in with wood blocks, all neatly stacked in the pit. It was very strange...

here is the haul, and about 1/8 of the wood blocks we ended up pulling out of the thing

Oh boy, Wilkie is gonna love the Jake! Couldn't find the shards of the russian bottle to figure out the rest of it? What a bottle that would have been!

The quart "chief" is listed in red book 10 between $500-750. Not too shabby!

What are the black marks covering those two bottles? Oil of Balm is a possibility.
