I was looking through my bottles and found one that I thought had a lot of embossed writing - 92 characters. Was wondering if anyone could beat that?? Thnks.....Ron

Hi ktbi; That is an interesting question. In the Thatcher Central Mold we had three decal pantographs and about nine bench hands; all capable of cutting letters. They were more modern bottles of course and I don't think there were any with that much lettering.
I have been collecting illustrations of hand cut lettering, and have written some about the tools that they used. In fact I have a set of about 20 or more letter cutting chisels. I expect to put together a blog for my homepage on this subject, sometime next winter. The reverse letters are always fascinating - because the letters have to be cut reverse in the molds - to come out readable on the glass. N & S are the main culprits of the subconscious mold makers mental relaxation.
Thanks for your survey. RED Matthews

First thing that came to my mind were the Reese poison bottles - they have an extraordinary amount of embossing. I don't have one right now, or I would start counting!

Maybe not the most exciting bottle in the world, but 152 characters, not including punctuation..[;)]

I have a newer (1970s) commemorative bottle from the Star City Glass Works of Coventry, RI that I believe lists every employee's name. I'll have to dig it out of the attic!

How about a "Thompson's Higiea Wild Cherry Phosphates" med, ...from Chicago?....Anyone able to help out w/ an image?...These bottles usually have an amazing amount of embossing on the back. I have one but it's just got the cross on the front and the trade name...
Thanks,....Joe

Here are the pics of my two most embossed bottles, I don't have them on hand, but there's def. more than 150 characters on each.
Star City Glass Works, embossed on both sides:
