Here is just one of the bottles I found at the Smyrna Show. Still hadn't had a chance to get photos of the embossed bottles I bought. The story on this Tab bottle-When the government banned cyclamates, it sent the Soft Drink companies scrambling to change the diet drink formulas. Saccharin left a bitter aftertaste, so until Coke could perfect the formula Tab came out with sugar and saccharin briefly. Since they did not have time to make new bottles, they used a paper label.

Cap was also marked-twice. Diabetics had gotten used to drinking Tab, so Coca-Cola had to warn people it now contained sugar.

that's neat. do you know when tab hit the market. i knew alot of people that drank it but no one that liked it.

Tab came out in 1963. They had to remove cyclamates in 1969. My sister loves Tab. She drank it in the 1970's and still drinks it today! I tried one recently. It isn't as bad as it used to be, but still not great.

THANK YOU FOR SHARING DIGDUG. I TRIED DRINKING A TAB IN THE 60S AND MAN IT WAS BAD! I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS STILL AROUND. I AM A DIABETIC I WONDER IF THE WARNING STILL STANDS? JAMIE

Tab is 100% artificial sweetner now. Although-I don't know with what exactly. I like Tab better than Diet Coke, but like Coke Zero a lot better than Tab. 'Diet' drinks have come a long way! I remember my Aunt drinking Diet Rite in the 1960's. You talk about something NASTY tasting![:'(]

Great bottle Doug. I remember the paper labels. We called them girl bottles becaust they had on a skirt. Tryed Tab when I was a kid and it was nasty stuff. Until they came out with Nutra Sweet most diet drinks tasted bad. Tried a tab a year or so ago and your right, it ain't as bad as it used to be but it is still nasty.
