Hi folks... just wondered if anyone had done much country probing. I've dug many town privies but few in the country. I'd only mess with nicer farm houses--1810-1870-- where there was some money to spend on the sort of stuff a digger is after! Are the privies often located in similar spots, and are they lined as they are in town?Any experience you can share would be appreciated.

Thanks, John.

In the country, they often had more area to dispose of trash and they most often hauled it to a nearby ditch or some such place that they wanted to fill in or keep from eroding. Most of these are now filled with dirt and silt so locating them is a bit tricky.
