I've posted this bottle before in the Digging and Finding section. I was hoping to find some info. on this bottle which was dug from a pontil period privy. Any info. that you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I wanted to stay away from this one, but since you asked...

It is very difficult to determine in my opinion because it could be American or Continental, and it could be as early as 1750s Wistarburgh or Germantown or as late as 1820s Pittsburgh or Ohio. The color can match any of these... as a matter of fact I was able to get a close match to some Germantown shards that I have, however, the color looks more like NJ or PA glass to me.

The sheared, and slightly flared, is much like the treatment of an 1820s flask. This is a tough one... I am having a difficult time giving this one a clear attribution. I would say that I believe it to be American, and before 1820... that is about as far as I can go. I hope someone can offer more info.

Since you asked, I think that it is a GREAT early bottle that could have been made just about anywhere in the world between 1750 and 1850. I agree with Steve that the bottle has an early look and feel but I am wary of making a hard and fast time/location attribution because there's not enough info to pin it down...

Thought I might revive this post after seeing the picture and description of this similar bottle on page 66 of this article. http://www.gregorylefever.com/pdfs/Jamestown%20Glass2.pdf
Could it be as old as the 1600's ?[8|]

Where, when, what layer etc. was it found? That may explain a lot. A stone, wood, brick liner or no liner might help the experts and if it was dig in Pittsburgh or wherever.

I know very little and I'll say between 400BC and 1980AD. That's just in case you were in Italy or Sumaria or someplace.[:)][:)]
I disagree.

My opinion is 1820-30. Pittsburg made.
Ah, that would be 19th century, yes? What is the disagreement?

what are the weird marks on the corner? Graduations, scratches, decorations, figments of my imagination?
