That is crazy...I have two of them. Bought one in a shop and one on eBay...both under $20 and from different sides of the country. They were as far as I can tell pretty widely distributed. I would dispute the 500 made...seems to be way too many of them kicking around for that. Defintely a neat and historic bottle, but I would not call them rare by any stretch. Heck of an expensive mold to just run 500 bottles.

Agreed, I've seen too many for there to only have been 500. Dug shards of a broken one myself in a 30s dump. Perhaps they brought 500 with them (not convinced, specimen jars would have been far more suitable), and many thousands were distributed to druggists throughout the country.

I do have 1 of the 1,000 first edition "Little America" books signed and numbered by Byrd himself. A bit more personal as far as a piece of history goes. More valuable too, lol.

Hey guys thank for you input.Maybe there were more than 500 made .I was going by a story from an old bottle magazine I read. And some info I pick up off an Ohio state Un. post like 7 yr ago.The story was that there was a guy in RI. that had 4 of them 3 had creel shrimp in them and one was clean. They had been sent to his parents who were Marine biologist who did some work for the Expedition. The story went on to say that there had been a rush order of 500 made for the Expedition and that for some reason most of them had been corked with notes and thrown over board and drift calulations were done off of them. Ya know I have looked for this bottle an information about it a lot of times and have gotten very little .I have showen it to a lot of people in the bottle community to whom had not seen it. While there may have been more than 500 made I just did'nt see it. I guess we will see with the auction what there worth maybe 20 buck as you said you payed .Mine was part of a dig me and my family did so if it goes for a 1000.00 I guess my boy will have something some day. If not he will still have a good memory. I sure would like to see the 2 you have Nhpharm.Do they both have the Owens bottle co makers mark. Well any way thank agian for the input .

Wow...$300 plus buyers premium for the one in John's auction and $527 including buyers premium for the one in Heckler's auction. I am going to have to dig my duplicate out!
