I found this bottle in a 1800's dump, it is clear,4 shields around the middle seperated by stars, star on the bottom,3"tall,tooled lip,8 sides on the bottom section. Can anyone tell me what it is?

It looks to me like a condiments bottle made to fit a (typically) silver-plated caddy. These caddies are called "casters" and were popular in the late 1800s -- a touch of elegance, I suppose. The bottles have a bottom portion which is straight-sided and narrower than mid-body. This narrower bottom was made to fit the opening in the caster.

Thanks for the feedback, Tom! Glad I could help. Those certainly appear to be caster bottles.

Here are some casters illustrated in the 1894-95 Montgomery Ward & Co. catalogue.
