Back when I was a kid, we played marbles 3 ways.
"Ring"...where we drew a ring in the dirt or chalked one on a sidewalk...each player anted up to the middle of the ring, and we took turns shooting from outside the ring - keeping whose ever marble we knocked out.
"Chase"...you didn't even wanna be 1st in this game. The loser in a cointoss led off by shooting his marble anywhere. The follower then would shoot and try to hit the marble....getting to keep it if he did...but getting set-up for losing his own if he didn't.
and 3...which we didn't play too often -
"Chinese Checkers"

I've picked up a few of the latter games over the years. Being painted tin they are hard to find in good condition. Also hard to find unused or , with all the marbles & checkers.

Both the above and this "board" rotated and had compartments for the marbles. The above has wooden checkers, BTW.

This one is the only unused example I have. Made by Pressman Toy Co...no idea of age. All the others I post(ed) were made by Ohio Art Co....which makes sense given that the largest marble producing companies were in Ohio.

while both 3 & 4 look the same: one is a top and the other is a bottom. To further explain - all the round sets are 2 pieces...with a regular checkerboard on the 2nd section (often the bottom). the top) fits snugly down and around the bottom section. The marbles are stored in between these halves.

Those are pretty Kool. Never got into them. Some of the guys at LOM collect those as well as the wooden ones. They also made larger versions for 1" diameter marbles. Those are tuff to find.
