LONG AGO MARBLES WERE NOT JUST FOR KIDS.[NOW DAYS EVEN KIDS DON'T PLAY MARBLES THAT I KNOW OF..SAD] MY AUNT'S DAD BORN IN THE 1870S HAD A PRIZE "AGGIE" MARBLE HE PLAYED WITH AS A YOUNG MAN.WISH I HAD GOTTEN HER TO SHOW IT TO ME,BUT AT THE TIME IWAS IN MY TEENS AND MARBLES MEANT NOTHING TO ME ANY MORE...OFTEN WONDERED WHAT HAPPENED TO IT AND WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE.. Lots of kids still play marbles and they still have tournemants here and there. Collectors and Marble Shows across the country help keep marbles collecting/ playing alive and well with our youth. My boy has his own batch of mibs given to him a few years ago by a generous collector. I'll let him play with them when he is old enough.
An Agate marble from the late 19th century would have been hand faceted to attain it's roundness. Those are really nice to find especially with bullseyes and nice banding.

THANKS! I COULD TELL FROM WHAT MY AUNT SAID HER DAD'S SPECIAL MARBLE MENT ALOT TO HIM.
