My question is should a gallon Mason-like jar that has "One Gallon" written in script on the bottom, along with the letters "HA," be considered a Mason Jar even without any other lettering present? If so, I need to go back and retrieve it... Right now, it has some very old preserves stored in it.

That sounds like a Hazel Atlas jar. I don't know the value, but perhaps someone else can help.

Hi John, Yes it's probably a Hazel-Atlas jar, in the embossed logo, the H should straddle over the A. While Hazel-Atlas made a lot of mason jars, not every jar they made was intended to be a canning jar. That didn't stop people from canning in anything a lid would fit on, but unless you want to can something in it, I wouldn't worry about it. Unembossed jars with just a logo on the base don't carry a lot of value among collectors - plus gallon jars are very bulky. Way too much space occupied by something that's worth maybe a buck. -Tammy

Tammy et al.,

Thanks! I'll probably get it at some point to take it to the Flea Market.
