Dug this bottle near Mendecino Calif. in an old sawdust, refuse dump. Logo says S&B or B&S no other markings. Seams go to shoulders Please help!

Thanks I'm new to this and am frustraded by not being able to fiqure out what was in the bottle, when and where it was made. Does this happen often? Do bottle that you can't I.D. have any value? I think the best part of finding a bottle is not the beauty of the bottle itself but knowing where it came from and what it was used for. Its 12" tall 3.5" diameter, Here's another picture.[>:]

Hi mmoltcha welcome to the bottle forum [:D] .
Your bottle is more than likely a whiskey or a wine, if not it will be some other sort of grog.
It can be hard finding out what you have got sometimes but that can be part of the fun too.

By your rubing I would say it is B & S with the B being dominant it would be the first letter. The ones I give you I think I left something out on one 1825 to 1888 Boston and Sandwich (defently a bottle maker) I am not sure how old via seams as lost my book and memory on that (hope someone will help).

In looking at your bottle and the base again, I don't think the base is a pontil (sharp glass on bottom of bottle) . So that would mean the bottle was made after 1860 using a snap case. The bottle shape itself is for a Western Wiskey. So along with the mold seams it should be between 1860 to 1880. I have bought Western Wiskey's from $5.00 to $12.00.
