Went to the North Shore of Oahu today, I always wonder about the balancing rock at Kaiaka Beach Park...As some of you might know Hawaii has it's share of myths and legends the rock is pretty huge and it balances on another rock, it's so odd looking and out of place, you can see light coming from the other side in the pictures...Any logical ideas how this happen?...I looked up the internet and could only find this information : Kaiaka Bay Beach Park is the site of a legendary pedestal, or balancing, rock called Pohaku o Lana’i, which was said to have floated ashore from the distant land of Kahiki. A large limestone formation, Pohaku o Lana’i, stands alone near the edge of the bay.

Indeed, Joe; how cold & logical ! Where's your usual quirky, wild imagination ?? LOL. Has it been hammered into submission by all the snow & rain? [8|]

Looks to be ancient coral which would put it under water at one time. Looking at the soil around it points to ash from a volcanic eruption that killed off the coral. Over time the ash eroded and exposed the wonderful formation.
