Hey everyone,
Eddie, crozet86, picked this up, from the front porch, of a store site, we searched the other day here in Virginia. The color is hard to describe. I would called it a berry or grape color. It seems to be a type of turn mold. It is very crude. The concave bottom resembles a sand pontil with a nipple in it's center. I'm not even sure if this is possible. I'm just describing what it looks like. The embossing seems to be: M.A. WOLFF // FRANKFURT A/M. My wife, who is German, translated (the city) Frankfurt --- A/M = on the Maine river. So this tells the bottles origin, can anyone help with the company or product? Thanks in advance.

What an interesting bottle, Meech! I had never seen an embossed "hoch" (=tall) wine, though I have seen some colorful bottles.

To turn this bottle in the mold, the bottle-maker would have to partially open the mold. He would have to drop the "post bottom" out of the mold to avoid smearing the embossing. Could happen.

I don't think this bottle is pontil-scarred because the central nipple is not affected, but I have just a pic to go on.

Your German-speaking wife may be able to find some history on this vintner in the Frankfurt am Maine city directories. Let us know what you find out.

I have this same bottle and was wondering if anyone can tell me what one may be worth. I also have a blue Andrew Ertle massillon, Oh glass soda/beer bottle, any info or help with estimate would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, that's an old thread! [8D]

Base embossing is definitely not usual on them, so that should increase the value. Being European, well, that will decrease the value..
..unless you find a collector who is looking for that sorta thing.. am I rambling? sorry.. unembossed ones are under $10 most of the time..

FEINEST QUALITÄT

I hope you (and your wife) can help me with the identiffication/ date/ origin of this bottle. I found it some days ago. Its a turn mold, olive green. Maybe 1890´s. The paper label sorprise me very much. There weren´t many drinks with a such label in Germany those years.
Thanks in advance. Alex.
