Yes, what is this? This lid was found this past week in NYC. Wondering about the age, rarity, and (of course) everything else. The lid says "CREME D'AMANDES AMERES / POUR LA BARBE / ROGER & GALLET / 38 RUE D'HAUTEVILLE 38 / PARIS". The transfer ink is black and the pot lid has a slight dome or, perhaps, is slightly concave.

Thanks much in advance,

andy g.

Well all I can give you is a translation:

"CRÈME D'AMANDES AMÈRES / POUR LA BARBE / ROGER & GALLET / 38 RUE D'HAUTEVILLE 38 / PARIS"

translates to:

"BITTER ALMOND CREAM / FOR THE BEARD / ROGER & GALLET / 38 D'HAUTEVILLE STREET 38 / PARIS"

As for value, the pot lid collectors can answer this one!

À la prochaine!

The history I read about them said they moved to 38 Rue d'Hauteville in 1867 and stayed there till 1932.
My French is so so , hope I read it right.
They were one of the most famous perfumers in the world for more than 100 years, pretty impressive run.

Hello Andy,

This lid dates to around 1910 and they are relatively common here in Australia and is one I have dug previously. They usually sell in the $40-$60 range.

Thank you all. I figured that the pot lid was newer based on the context it was found in but was hoping the lid was a tad older. Oh well, still a pretty piece.

Much appreciated.
