Hello,
I'm new to the forum, and to bottle collecting in general. I love to look for things that are old and potentially of value. I was at the library the other day, and by chance, ended up bring home a book "Antique Trader Bottle I.D. and Price Guide."
Then a few days ago my girlfriend was in an antique shop near her house and found this fire grenade. She paid $5 for it!! It's a medium blue turquoise in color. It reads. "Harden's Hand Fire Extinguisher Grenade" embossed on one side, and "Patented No.1 Aug 8 1871 Aug 14 1883" on the reverse. It also has a "1" embossed on the bottom of the bottle.
Unfortunately a previous owner drilled a hole in the top of the bottle and removed the original contents. That being said, the bottle appears to be in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks or other imperfections. The embossing is a little worn, but that's to be expected. There is still a good portion of the concrete seal on the top too. In the "Antique Trader" book it said this could retail between $80-150. What would you guys estimate it being worth. I have no intention of selling it.
Thanks!
P.S. I just tried uploading a photo but it said the file is too large. Any suggestions?
