Here's a couple of pics of a marble that came out of my recent privy dig. It looks rather old, and I'm guessing it didn't roll very well, as it's not very round. [:(] I hope the marble experts out there can tell me more about it. [:)] ~Mike

Were those made by the Chinese, Road Dog? There was a big Chinese population here when the railroad was built in the late 1860's. ~Mike

Not China. Thuringen, Germany most likely. Made of white kaolin clay (porcelain). The older ones tend to be unglazed. Coils tend to date mostly from 1880-1900. Yours being a later glazed is why the design is mostly wore away.
