dug a small barrel today... was about 3 1/2' around by 6' deep.

nice age 1850 - 1870.... of course about everything in it was broken.

the only decent bottle that came out whole was this early smooth base.

lots of early broken pottery. we found all of this spongeware bowl though.

will make for a nice glueback.

two nice dark green Hostetters came out busted up..

nice dig though. homeowner was really nice. he was

interested and asked a lot of questions

Is the dutcher's open pontil or smooth base? There is a big price spread between the two, with the smooth base somewhere under $100 and the pontil up to $200 undamaged.

Good bottle either way.

good find even in smooth base. Looks clear glass in the photo which would make it uncommon. They are normally aqua.

it's a smooth base.



old.s.bottles,

that is the color of the Hostetter's we found. the first one was laying on the
bottom of the pit looking whole, and when we picked it up, the side of the bottle
that was down fell off............
