    RE: Any collectors out there?

Thank you for whoever was responsible for getting us an insulator forum. I'm an insulator collector, also. I got hooked after I found a couple while mountain biking. Mine are all common, I'm sure, but I did find a partial rams horn insulator along the old railroad grade last year. It's not in very good shape, but I was stoked to not only find it, but to recognize what it was. [:)] ~Mike

    Hey, all!

It is an awesome idea to start an insulator subforum on this site. I think we'll probably see some interesting pieces turn up! I am also an insulator collector, and as I am sure is the case with any of the other collectors on this site, I am happy to help ID any insulators anyone turns up - just post 'em here, and I'll do my best.
Since we're sharing recent hunt photos, I am going to attach a couple. First off are a few from Kyle (Insulators Rule!) and my dig the other day, while the pieces were still in the ground - no shortage of insulators here!

And another - this was not an uncommon site in this dump - buried 3 or 4 deep in some places. All of these insulators were telephone styles - CD-102, 106, 108, 122, 190/191, 200 and 202.

Great dig pictures guys! It's nice to hear about those spots, there's hundreds of dumps like that around, it's just a matter of getting the information like you guys did. Hopefully you'll find something more rare in the bunch.

    Fellow insulator addict,

    RE: Any collectors out there?

Hello to all of you, I thought I had a post on here but didn't see it today. I am looking for solid glass insulators. They were made by filling a mold outside form only with solid hot metal (melted glass) from the crucible. There was no core or threads - just solid glass. I am putting together a blog on this early glass forming procedure, also used for bottles and jars. I haven't found much on the reasons for making them, mentioned in any books. I at least know why it was done and want to share this with other collectors that are interested. Thanks RED Matthews

Thanks for sharing. Something about insulators......they sure are fun to find but can be difficult to find. We would love to find an insulator dump someday!! We spend alot of time walking the tracks......guess we keep walking!!

Here's my insulator collection. Not as many as I use to have, but still some nice pieces.
