It does not look as if that's Charlie's writing - my sense is that it's something that was bought from him.

A few old old time diggers I know in New London got their start on Charlies pay roll as kids. He'd have em out digging and buy anything decent they found... he was a wheeler and a dealer besides a collector! When a good bottle was found in New London back then there was no questions asked, take to Mr Gardner! I have quire a few of his bottle books that were donated by Nina to the library and the library later sold. My favorite is Richard Watsons Bitters Book with Gardners check marks next to acquired bottles and personal revisions and notes... I wonder if there is anything about this bottle in the book?

Wow, there's some great reference tools! If you have the chance, I'd love to see some of his margin notes...

Makes me wanna ask folks what great books they have in their bottle library. I'll start with you, what's on your bookshelves?
