I agree complety Matt. The picture is kinda poor though, better ones are needed but if I had to guess I'd say it looks older, say 1860's. I'll bet it's pontiled and has a bit of extra "scroll work at the bottom of the handle. Maybe a labelled Binningers like on color plate XV in McKearin/Wilson.
Hi, thank you for your replies. Been out of pocket lately. However, I've attached a photo of the bottom of the bottle. The bottle world is very new to me, so I appreciate any insight you can give me. Thank you again.
mike,
tony suggested that I look on ebay to see if similiar bottle is there. I just don't know what to use for keywords in my search...whiskey bottle, pontil, applied handle?
I am curious to know if this bottle has any value. It's been sitting atop my dresser for the last few decades.
Suz, What you have there looks like a flattened chestnut whiskey flask with applied handle..... Value off the top of my head.... $90-125. The example I posted is a "Keene" NH bottle also with pontil. Hope this helps! Taz
Taz nailed that one... right on target! That is a handled Chestnut flask... definitely New England... very collectable... they can bring in some good money too... I think a bit higher than what Taz bought all his for, $200 AND UP.
HEY TAZ... IF THIS IS PART OF YOUR 5,000 BOTTLE COLLECTION, I'M COMING UP THIS WEEKEND TO VISIT YOU & WNENDY!!!! I GOTTA SEE THESE!!!!!!![8D]
