I got this from a guy who “moved into the house and there were all these canning jars in the basement†and there were a lot of canning jars... atleast 100 or more... most of them new... some of them I need to look into.. anyway, along with them came some other really interesting stuff. This one is cool and I would love to know more about it, what it was possibly used for? That kind of stuff… I put it on the Bay of E a few days ago so it won’t be mine for much longer… the bottle is just under 4 1/2" tall

Hey Jim… I like it and I am sure it is the oldest bottle I have ever held onto… though I don’t know its age… here is that link

I hope someone who knows chimes in with info so you add it to your auction. Best of luck, I'll be watching it...[;)]

Dug the same bottle in Philly a few years ago. It was my first dig in Philly, the guys in the know I was with said it is an 1820's medicine. I am pretty sure it is at least that old.

What an awesome looking open pontiled medicine bottle. It’s certainly different than your typical pontiled drugstore bottles. What a great score!!! Thanks for sharing.

Wow.. thanks for the info... but now I wish I did not know that... because it is making me wish I did not put it up for sale [:-]... but, it will help offset the price of what I paid for all of them... wow... 1820's... it is safe to say that is the oldest man made thing I have ever owned... sweet

Someone posted some of those age and type bottles with paper labels. I'll try and post the pics tomorrow. Unless someone has the link.

These particular ones where labeled Carpenter's Sarsaparilla. Probably a generic type sold by glasshouses. I'm sure they were used for all sorts of meds.
