To me it appears to be a modern reproduction of an ancient glass item probably for the tourist trade. They also used to sell stuff like this in the back of archeology and travel magazines. It has the general form but the glass isnt right. Hard to say how old it is. Some time in the 20th century I would guess.
Just my opinion for whatever thats worth.
BTW an authentic ancient piece in that form would be pretty valuable as its not a common form.
THANKS MEDS..IM GONNA SEND IT TO RED AND HES GONNA HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AT THE CORNING MUSEUM JUST IN CASE...I THOUGHT IT WAS A MODERN REPRO AS WELL BUT A LOT OF FOLKS SAID THEY THOUGHT IT WAS THE REAL MCCOY LOL...THIS IS FUN JUST RESEARCHING AND GETTIN OPINIONS ANYWAY...THIS FORUM IS GREAT!!!
Hey Dan
Whenever it was made, someone took great care to really work the glass.
When I was a teenager,my Dad took us back to W Va ,where he was born and the family has been since the early 1800's. The highlight of the trip, other than seeing the 1820 house the family built, was to visit the BLENKO GLASSWORKS in Milton,W Va. Man those men and women could blow glass....
