Hello everyone!
New to Collecting? (at least glass) Not quite sure? I mean I did dig this stuff up some 25+ years ago, on a construction site in Downtown Los Angeles. I was told at the time by an old timer at the dairy that the site used to be a swamp/dump then years later that's where they would deposit the cows that had died. (Only notable because I found numerous bones & big teeth in the layers above). Then, a little farther down "Bam" a giant pocket of broken glass and pottery of which only a few pieces were intact. Yea, I was just a kid, but when I saw all the air bubbles and the strange tops I Knew I was on to something good. Boy, I treated them like gold for awhile. Now fast forward to today. After several moves and storages I've broken them out (no pun intended) to re-discover the beauty and fine craftsmanship that we so don't have today. I have been doing some research and the "Historic Glass Bottle Identification & Information Website" is by far one of the best collector sites I’ve seen. And this forum, from what I've read is chock-full of information and kind-hearted people who want to share and help. Anywho, on to my first (of probably many) questions.
The green LACTOPEPTINE bottle I found was half full of pills, rusty cap still on (threads have since rusted away-just the top remains). I know clean glass looks better but I know originality can be good too. Any thoughts? I mean on one hand I love Patina, but on the other hand, yea I have to admit it all comes down to value. Which is more desirable? Or I could clean it up and just put the pills back in. Granted, I'm guessing these aren't in high demand but it is the only one I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
