I just got a coin roll today and it had a 1909 VDB, 1918 s, 8 1926, 1946 s, 1948 s, 3 steelies, & a 1955 s. Also a bunch of 1955 ones but no double dies []
At an auction a decade or so ago I bought a collection cheap with about 30 of those guys, kinda fun I guess but I prefer my real '55 doubled die a tad bit more. One of my uncles once got a '55 DDO as a kid in Northern NY (where many first got out into circulation) and he spent it on a gumball. Years later he realized what it was and has kicked himself ever since. One heckuvan expensive gumball, lol. [][][]
Not nearly as special, but last year I pulled a 1995 Doubled Die out of circulation. Brown and ugly but worth putting aside. Dad found one back in '95, nice and minty fresh. It's fun to scrutinize your coinage.
Also worth looking for are the counterfeit "Henning" nickels:
Haven't found any yet but they have solid collector value and I highly doubt that even the few people who do hunt nickel rolls are all pulling them out for what they are (though they do tend to set aside all the older ones). My dad also found a 1939 DD reverse Jefferson while searching nickels a while back. It is a cool error coin.
I have the 39dd nickel and the 95 plus the 84, 72, alot of years of searching when I was younger. Once at a shop I picked a 1942d dd dime ,sold for it 220bucks, I dont get into coins now.
