Here's a strange one I dug today from a 70's-90's pit. Found at the very bottom with the oldest stuff. Lucky I didn't end up breaking it as I dug it from the bottom and thought two bottles had collided with only one survivor. Was prretty surprized when I pulled this beauty out. First thought was a pontiled cologne with the flaired lip and neck bulge. Embossed on bothe sides of bulge Patent Applied For on one side, Press Sponge Here on the other side. No embossing in the recessed panels but on the edges embossed Bartlett's/Dressing on one and H.A. Bartlett & Co./ Philadelphia on the other. No air venting, very crude & whittled. Base appears early cup mold. Guessing early to mid 70's. Found nada in my search, any info anyone? Thanks.

Wow ! Jack, those are terrific. The first one is way bizzare. Why do you say "Polish" or is it POLE-ish? Can't help a whit with the I.D. but just had to comment. Thanks again for the CDA Pharms.

Hey Jack,

That Bartlett Stove Polish is outstanding! There's a wonderful trade card Over Here. Can you photograph the rest of the embossing please?

From.

Could this be Salamander?

"Salamander (and design) -- 2949. September 21, 1875. Stove Polish. H.A. Bartlett & Co., Philadelphia, Pa." Digest of Trademarks 1893.

Reggie Lynch has this one:

"H.A. BARTLETT / & CO PHILADA / HUB SHOE / DRESSING
Aqua blue glass, height 5", BIM with smooth base, excellent condition with some haze and light wear.
See matching matching trade card." From.

possibly to answer both botlguy and surf, I always believed the term "Dressing" was specific to shoe and boot polish. Blacking for stoves, etc? I like the idea that the patent was mid-70's which would put me right about where I thought it was age-wise. I will atttempt to take some pics of the embossing, though my brain has fried with digging a 13' hole by myself in 90+ degree heat. And whoever said bottle diggers were smrt? HA!
