I was wondering if you guys could help me out once again. Lately I haven't come across much to share ar ask about but I was sent a bottle to look up today and to my untrained eye it looks to be old. Seam stops at the neck and appears to be pontiled. I have never seen a pontil bottle other than pics posted here and elsewhere. Never seen one in person. Anyway I was hoping I could get some help on date and what this bottle was used for and or if it a repro. The bottle has a nice whittled look. Thanks!

I am 99% sure it's not a repro and made in the mid 19th century, 1850 +/- 10 years. As for it's use, could be most anything but I suspect medicine or chemical. Looks pretty big in the picture, 13 - 15 inches tall?

I see no need to make a repro of this bottle, it's not an exotic color or an embossed rare bottle, it would cost more to repro it than it's worth...[;)]

Thanks guys I was excited to see it when I unrolled it from the newspaper. Very neat bottle and am glad to hear it is original, very cool. Has a chip in the lip but cool nonetheless.

Sorry I should have given it's size. It looks a bit big in the pics but it's about 7 1/2" high 2 1/2 in diameter

I figured from what I've learned here it wouldn't be worth much. I didn't know whether it was maybe made recently in Mexico or something for a tourist shop. Feels pretty cool to hold a bottle this old in my hands and think about how it survived all this time. Awesome
