Hi all, posting this pot lid, its a one of a kind so far and check out the street name on it.

Copied from the other post, this says more.
Hi all, I am posting a pic of a New Orleans pot lid, its is unlisted and as far as anyone knows (at least in my area) its the only one, what makes this lid really neat is the address, Bourbon st. i am sure most know thats the famous french quarter street, though folks here would like to see it, don't plan on selling it.

Nice find Relicsnstuff. Looks like a French lid made for the US market. Plenty of UK lids were done for similar purposes with American addresses. Time for a bit of research on Deloche in Orleans to prove othewise.

Wow, that looks familiar? To bad you missed David (TROG), he's into these. Maybe he'll see it as summer's setting in again.[:D][:D]

Nice one, Joseph,

Would like to see more pictiures, please.

Louis Deloche was listed in the 1838 Directory, 1850 & 1853 New Orleans Directory:

"Deloche Louis druggist 253 Bourbon"

By the 1861 Directory, he was listed at:

"Deloche Louis druggist 195 Bourbon"

I'd be tempted to visit those addresses, were I there. Can one dig in the French Quarter?

I thought I had responded to this earlier, but perhaps had been timed out. [8D] A couple extra points of reference for you then...

Hi Joseph

What a great find and obviously very rare. I had heard of a French language lid from New Orleans but did not know any details at all.
The English translation appears to be L. Deloche, Chemist, Corner of Dumaine and Bourbon, New Orleans.

Hi all, Surfaceone you are right , i found him listed to, of all the digging that has taken place in New Orleans this is the first one of his pot lids to show up, he must have not not sold many, as far as digging in the French quarter its almost impossibe, you can dig there if you get permission from the owners, most of these have their yards covered with either bricks or flagstone and folks are not going to want to pull them up, we have dug a few times when some one pulled up bricks or flagstone for a pool or redo their yard, the lid is 2 3/4 round, David you are right on the english spelling, i will repost a better picture of this lid, i aslo have all (3) of the Dr. E.J.Coxe's lids with matching bases i will post them as well, sorry i took a while to get back to the post but our lab has been sick and we have been running around to different vets for test.

Joe.
