I found this bottle in a bunch of fill material. The front says City Bottling House Pittsburgh PA. There is nothing on the back or the bottom. It looks to be one of those blob top soda bottles. I tried, but cannot find any others that look just like it on google. Everything that I've found has another bottling company name on it in addition to "city bottling house pittsburgh, pa" on it.

It is 7 1/4" tall and the base is 2 1/2" wide. There is a seam on both sides of the bottle so I'm guessing it was made in a mold. The bottom edge/corner of the bottle has slight ribbing, kinda like it was rolled over something to soften the corner a little. The "blob" on top looks... "drippy" kinda like it was dipped or added on sloppily.

Any idea when this bottle was made and what it was used for and what kind of value it has?

Thanks for looking and helping!

Ken

It's an applied blob top and I'd say 1870-80's, worth $15-25...

I believe it was from the J.C. Buffum & Company, this is from a previous post, I'm not sure what else you might want to know...

Here's a little:

"It seems that J.C. Buffum & Co. City Bottling House lasted longer than any bottle maker in Pittsburgh from 1845-1922.

That would account for the variety of containers I find in the area. Old advertisements list them on Market St., near Second Avenue, in the city’s downtown section. Soda waters, cider, syrups, seltzer, ale, porter, ginger ale, root beer and beer are a few of the products they bottled.

The first time J.C. Buffum appears in a Pittsburgh directory is in 1847. Buffum headed for Sacramento in 1849 when gold was discovered in California. Finding no gold he turned to beer brewing and opened a second Buffum & Co. in San Francisco."
