Picked this one up this past week from the bay, very nice example. Embossed chillicothe on 1 side panel. The name leads me to wonder...was this to cure you if you had worms, was the syrup made from worms, or were you to give this to your worms if they got sick?

Hey Adam,

You didn't append any smilies to you inquiry, so I'm not entirely sure if you are being facetious. [8D] "Worm Syrup" was a vermifuge to supposedly eliminate intestinal worms in humans.

I'm unsure of the relation of Dr. GW Denig to the firm of Allston & Davis. They also bottled other products from him. See this earlier one from appliedlips / Doug.

Matt lists several variants @ his Medicine Nexus.

I think Allston & Davis came about after the great Chillicothe Fire of 1852. There were more than a few Allstons & a couple of Davises in the Chillicothe vicinity in the second half of the 19th Century.

I would not be offended to see the base and finish in closer view. Thanks for showing this nice example.

Surfaceone - I was indeed being facetious, I just forgot to add the smiley face. Doug's example is very nice. If I had the $$, I would have bought it from him. I have 2 of the later versions of the cough balsams from Denig, and both are also embossed allston and davis as well. I'm not sure what the connection between the 2 is either. I'll get some more pictures of the base up.
