Well,

the ground is starting to harden up here so went out today to scout a bit of this 'new' town I'm in. Moved here in July but been too busy to get out - trying to liquidate most of my collections as well so haven't been looking to dig - but I MISS IT!

So, went out scouting today at what turned out to be an old prison, erected in 1910. I must have wandered about for over 4 hours and happened upon considerable dump evidence but most appearing industrial - cables, asphalt, concrete. Then, as I'm crossing a relaltively open and spongy area I spotted a glint...

The next couple of photos show what I found on the surface.....gotta go back with a rake!

If the dump is deep enough you can dig all winter. It only freezes so far down, same with privy's. Once you get past that hard ground it is like digging in the spring. If the dump is shallow then you won't be able to do much when the hard freeze comes.

or you can do what this guy does.[:D] there is always a way

And this guy is from Canada
