This bottle or decanter belonged to my Grandmother who was born in 1913. She remembers her mother having it through her childhood. I'm sure that it is not extremely old, but the problem is that I cannot find any information regarding a maker or date of manufacture.

Bottle qualities:

Cobalt blue and clear
Cut glass on the sides
Gold around the side with a Roman or Greek scene.
Gold paint around rim of lip.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Jeff

Sorry, I wish I could help you but this is out of my field... I have seen frags of this sort of thing in 1870s to 1900 context but I guess you could have guessed it's age to that extent ha ha.

Hey Jeff,

Welcome to the Blue Pages and thanks for showing this. What are it's dimensions? Is the inside of the finish ground for a stopper?

What does the rest of the Greco-Roman scene look like? Is it cobalt flashed and cut to clear? Couldya take closeups of some of the transitional areas, please. Photograph in natural light, if possible.

Hello Jeff, welcome to abn where answers to all bottle questions abound.........Your bottle looks like a 1890-1920s decantor to me, maybe a bit earlier than that. Nice piece of glass no matter what it turns out to be.......Andy

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the additional photos. The age range that Andy cited seems about right. I'm thinking it is a Bohemian piece.

Is the gold overlay color slightly different between the warrior scene and the framing bands? It appears to be acid etched.

Are there any areas of the cobalt that are scratched to clear? The flashed cobalt looks pretty thick from here in the cheap seats.

It looks like it could be lead glass. If you give it a little knock, does it produce a ringing sound? I would have liked to see the stopper on this one...

Looks like a wheel cut decanter. My guess would be Czech glass early 20th century.
Not really something most bottle people deal in. Need to post in an antique glass forum to get a better answer.
