Hello all,

I come to you with a hard question. I have been searching for about a year for information about George A Potter. I have had two of his bottles....one blob top Pony embossed G.A.P. and a stoneware embossed G A Potter. I have found some information that he was from Norwich but his bottles have been associated with New London CT. So I come to you oh "fact finders". Can anyone find some information?

I found this in the New London archives (vital records)
Martha J., of New London, m. George A. POTTER of Norwich, Oct. 28, 1848, by Rev. Thomas J. Greenwood

Here is a picture of the stoneware bottle. Prob dates to the 1860 -1870's. So very much appreciated.

Potter was from New London and has dated Stoneware Ginger Beers dated 1855 and 56 along with your undated variant and also a Gravitating Stopper in the 1860s...

After Potter died, I'm assuming in 1884, his wife decided she would continue the bottling operation using the original Root Beer recipe... This is from the New London newspaper THE DAY..

Thanks a ton. Where did you find the pictures of the bottles? And the additional information is great.

Is it possible that Potter was from Norwich as was in the New London vital archives?

One is from Soadasandbeers.com and the other was from an old Ebay sale, I'm guessing he could have been from Norwich and had his business in New London since they are only 14 miles apart...

I'm leaning towards New London. I found this patent that he issued in 1876.
