My husband found this potlid tonight while we were looking for bottles along the riverbank. I have searched online to find another one but can't come up with an exact match. Can someone shed some light on the rarity and age of this lid?

Hi,

This lid would date to around 1870 and do turn up occasionally so would have to say that it is scarce rather than it being a rare item.

This is a link to another Bazin,s lid that is classed as quite common.

Thanks for the links, guys! That's cool to know a "common" lid sold for so much. But I'm too stingy with my finds to ever let this one go. It's got a permanent display spot in my living room now. [:)]

I was wondering if pot lids are uncommon when they are from the U.S. I found a broken 1 that was from AL or GA or something around there. Will try to post later.

Hi ,

You are generally right with U S Pot Lids being uncommon but there are also a few that do turn up quite regularly although any complete pot lid could be classed as uncommon as most seem to be damaged in some way.

2find4me - This Bazin lid is listed in the 1987 Jackson book #162 and is relatively common but still a great find not having to dig.. congratulations! Roussel has 3 other lids with a very similar print but slight variations to the outer wording. Amadine must have been a popular product and was advertised from the early 1840s. Here's a couple of links that you may find helpful on US Lids.
